In 2014, the award was renamed the Mark Sachvie Coaching Achievement Award to honour one of the finest coaches Ontario has ever had.
Nicole Pirko and Mark Sachvie shared a great deal in common. Both extraordinary coaches – both associated with the Canada Winter Games – Nicole initially as an athlete and then for two Games, a coach. She brought not just her coaching knowledge to this role but also was able to empathize with the athletes as she had walked in their shoes.
Nicole is the squash professional at the Pickering Recreation Centre/Pickering Squash Club – the squash events she runs each year and extremely well attended because players know from experience that they’ll have a great time both on and off the court.
Simon Warder Outstanding Officiating Award was presented to David Howard of Simcoe. This award was created in the memory of Simon Warder, himself an outstanding official but more importantly, an outstanding individual.

The recipient each year is chosen by the individual’s colleagues which is an honour itself. Dave Howard was bitten by the refereeing bug back in the early ‘90s. He steadily progressed through the system and currently is a National Examiner and Pan American Regional Referee.
He has served as Tournament Referee for countless Ontario and Canadian Championships over the years.
Dave is not just committed to holding the clipboard; he is equally committed to ensuring that the national program is representative of high standards of competency and certification. He has been a member of Squash Ontario’s Referees Committee for many years and is currently chairing Squash Canada’s Officiating Restructuring Committee.
Many of our new members may not recognize the name Dave Howard. Dave was a charter member and a very active member of the Pickering Squash Club in it's fledgling years.

Doubles House League Semi Finals Results
The Doubles House League Semi Finals were played this evening with two very exciting matches.
In the 2nd vs 3rd match Mark and Dan (2nd) came up against Viru and Joan (3rd) . The end score does not justly show how close the games were. Viru and Joan put up a good fight and Mark and Dan had to be on their A game to win 15-12 15-12 15-11.
In the 1st vs 4th match the competition was again quite close with Darryl and Jonathan (subbing for Arron) against Bruce and Pat (subbing for Savio). In the fourth game Darryl and Jonathan were in the lead and close to the win at 12-7 when Pat and Bruce came on strong to overtake and finish the game at 15-13 sending it to the fifth game. In the fifth Darryl and Jonathan had to pull out all the stops to finish with a 15-8 win. Final result was 15-13 10-15 15-7 13-15 15-8 for Darryl and Jonathan 3-2.
Congratulations to all for a great night of squash.
The Finals will be played on Wednesday April 29th. At 6:30 the 3rd/4th match see Joan and Viru take on Bruce and Savio. The 1st/2nd match at 7:30 will see Mark and Dan take on Darryl and Arron. Come on out and cheer them on. As well, court 2 will be available for Round Robin play.

Hi Everyone,
I would like to invite you to participate in our annual Doubles Shindig Tournament. For those of you who have participated in the past, you know it's an absolute blast! Here is how it works... All you need to do is sign up on the doubles board outside the doubles courts and Terry/John will match you up with a partner so that each team is at an equal level and has an even chance of winning the big prize. You do not have to be a doubles player to participate, this is a great chance to get on the doubles court and see just how much fun the game really is.
The tournament will be played in the evenings starting on Wednesday April 22nd, Friday April 24th and the finals on Saturday morning April 25. Please have these dates available if you are planning on participating. We are asking that everyone pay $10 for snacks, prizes ect. and there will be a pub night on Friday night following the last matches.
Sign up is limited so please be sure to sign up asap!! Looking forward to seeing everyone on the doubles court!

Squash Ontario Doubles Referee Clinic
Squash Ontario in conjunction with the Ontario Squash Doubles League (OSDL) presented a Referee Clinic on Saturday Feb 28th. The event was attended by many Doubles Squash Players including some from the Pickering Squash Club. The Powerpoint presentation given by Tony Swift is an very good review of the Doubles Rules for any doubles Squash player. The executive urges all our Doubles Players to take the time to review this excellent document.

It's Time To Renew Your Club Membership
Your 2014-2015 Dues are Due
Yes, it costs a lot of money to run your club in a way that you want it to run. Your Executive works hard to keep those costs to a minimum. Some of the expenses are the entry fees for the various interclub teams that play out of Pickering Sqush Club, prizes for house leagues and various fun tournaments and we can't forget the great end of season banquet/party that everyone enjoys. All of this is paid for or subsidized by your small fee each year.
Please click HERE to download the membership form, print it out and write out a check for the small sum of $40. Juniors (under 18) should also fill out a membership form. It is free for them but they need to register as a member. The form and your cheque (made out to The Pickering Squash Club) can be dropped of with Nicole at her office or to any executive member.
If you don't submit your form and fees, you will be denied the pleasure of joining in the many activites that your club provides.

The Tuesday House League Regular Games comes to a conclusion
The regular season completed on Tuesday and saw Ian and Sean coming out in 1st place. They were closely followed by John and Kevin in Second, Darrell and Rick in Third and Fred and Dom in fourth.
The Semi-Finals will be played on Tuesday Nov 12th with Second VS Third at 7:00 PM and First VS Fourth at 8:00 PM.

Fall Harvest Hit Tournament
October 18th to 20th
Hi Everyone,
Just a reminder that our annual Harvest Hit Doubles Squash Tournament is on Oct. 18th-20th. The registration deadline is Oct. 11th. You must register on the Squash Ontario website (www.squashontario.com). They have a new online registration program that can be a little confusing so please register early so that you don't miss the deadline!! This year our tournament events are Men's B, Men's C, Women's B, Women's C and Mixed B. I have attached the tournament poster with all the tournament details. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns! This is a great opportunity to get some competitive matches, improve your game and have some fun!

I would like to invite you to a "Start of the season" fun round robin! This is for all Pickering Squash Club members of all levels. The round robin will be on Wednesday Sept. 25th (next Wednesday) starting at 6:40. At around 7:15 we will take a short break and run an Annual General Meeting where you will have a chance to meet our executive board members, have an opportunity to join the board and discuss any changes or issues you would like to see happen at the club.
